This week I went to a workshop on Second Life and its use in teaching.
It was an interesting session, but…
I still can’t see where it can be used in any meaningful way in
teaching. To begin with, there is a big learning curve to get students
to use it – I myself am stuck in Orientation Island and can’t get out of
it for weeks. So it would have to be used as an in-class demo tool,
which defeats a bit of the purpose.
As a 3-D visualisation tool it is superb – quite nice to get an avatar
flying around some concept. IBM has explored this, see
