I gave a session titled Computational Biology: Making Pet Bugs for the Headstart programme. I hope I was able to express to the students the importance of computation and mathematics to developments in the natural sciences.
A half-hour lecture was followed by 2 hours of programming leading to the implementation of a simulator for Chemotaxis in the Processing environment – it seems to have gone down well! I am more and more impressed with the didactic power of Processing. I think I will be trying to develop more resources in Processing to help in outreach activities.
